Minnesota Original featuring Coffee Art

The Coffee Artists were invited to demonstrate their coffee painting on the Emmy award winning show, Minnesota Original. They created an original painting onsite at Perkelat Coffee Shop in downtown Saint Paul.

It was a snowy February afternoon. The large flakes descended upon the city, while the artists were creating in a cozy coffee house. The setting was very charming with mom and pop authenticity. The Coffee Artists sat down facing each other, and begin their work of art. The freshly brewed espresso wash swiftly covers the canvas and the artists begin blocking in the elements. For this painting, paper craft figures with brass hinged joints are sprinting at a furious pace. As each figure is racing, they are each holding a steaming hot cup of coffee. This preposterous notion of racers running with scalding coffee, spilling all over the place, is the concept of this coffee painting titled, “Coffee Run.” The artists work from both sides of the canvas, intertwining their brushstrokes and progressing themselves towards their own finish line. Much like the race that they were creating, it was a race to complete a painting from start to finish in one sitting.

The artists painted all afternoon and into the evening. Finally, with the last stokes of their signatures, the painting was complete. They settle in for an interview and below is the Minnesota Original segment featuring their Coffee Art®:
